Testimonials - Running |
"So where am I ten lessons on? My homoeopath of twenty years suggested to me that I find an Alexander Technique teacher. I have been running now for almost two and a half years and was finding that my weakness was my neck. This had surprised me but once I realised that it was a posture issue, I heeded the advice given… and so started my journey with Carolyn.
I had no idea what to expect but went with an open mind hoping for clarity. It seemed quite alien to start with but little by little I was able to put the ideas into practice. I particularly liked the idea of my head being a kite with my body and limbs being the brightly coloured tails. I found I could walk with this idea in mind and from this I have been able to change the way I do various actions round the house including singing and dancing to Head Shoulders Knees and Toes.
My aim on starting was to help my running and it has helped so much more than that. But back to running: I have found the ability to remove the stress from running and hence to increase the pleasure of it. If I begin to feel tired, I focus on lengthening and broadening, breathing and it brings me back to a place of comfort. During my 5km run today I had to run up a 480m hill with an elevation of 20m. It is renowned for separating the men from the boys! I have always enjoyed the challenge but today towards the top I became aware that I was ‘floating’ effortlessly. It was the most amazing sensation."
