Testimonials 3/... Back pain

"I had been suffering from a bad back and sciatica for 8 years and thought, as a last resort, I would try the Alexander Technique, which has proved a saviour for my back problems. I signed up for a course of 10 lessons and after the first lesson I did feel extremely relaxed and had the sensation that I was floating on air... Lying down each day for 15 minutes made an enormous difference. I discovered it was not a question of 'trying to do the Alexander Technique' but simply 'letting go'.
By lesson 8 I found that I was automatically carrying myself in a more relaxed way and generally carrying out day-to-day activities with grace and ease.
I am almost at the end of my sessions and have not had to take any painkillers, and no longer feel fearful in situations which require a lot of physical use of my whole body." SK, Finchley

"I have now had about 10 Alexander lessons and I am amazed by the difference it has made in such a short time. I have had back pain for quite a while now and during my revision for my GCSE exams it got a lot worse.
I have done ballet for 12 years and through my Alexander lessons I have realised that this has given me back pain. This is due to my constantly tense lower back, locked knees and tense shoulders. In these lessons I have discovered how to release these tensions and stand correctly, which has greatly decreased my pain. I also realised after a few lessons that I constantly arched my back slightly. Although this has been more difficult to alter than the tensions due to ballet I have gradually been able to correct this when I notice and. This has also greatly decreased my pain."
